A Special Place
Care Setting
The staff of Elkins Rehabilitation and Care Center realizes that meeting physical health needs is just one part of a person's total care. Hospitality matters at ERCC, and it extends from visitors and family members to every person receiving treatment here. We allow people to recover in comfortable surroundings, with welcoming décor inside and beautiful, natural settings surrounding the outside.
Care Teams
Ensuring the best possible care for residents is a true team effort at ERCC. Within two weeks of an admission, a multi-disciplinary group meets to discuss the person in our care. The team includes a registered nurse who acts as the coordinator, plus a social worker, the activities director, hospitality director, therapist and whatever other staff members are appropriate. The open dialogue centers on the resident's expectations and care needs. After the initial discussion, the Care Team meets again at least every three months, or more often if there is a significant change in the medical condition of the resident. Sometimes aides who interact with the patient on a frequent basis will attend. As with many activities at ERCC, the meetings are open to the patient, caregivers, and interested family members.
Alone Time
Although numerous group social functions are offered on a daily basis, that doesn't always address the needs of each individual. ERCC's friendly staff members from all disciplines also take the time to visit personally with residents, making activities available in the privacy of their own room if that's what they prefer. The goal is to ensure the comfort and happiness of all residents in the manner that best fits them.
Independence
One of ERCC's main goals is to ensure people maintain a sense of normalcy even as their surroundings change, even temporarily. Staff spends time with each person individually, discussing their likes and dislikes. Then they work to create an atmosphere that makes them feel comfortable in their new home. For some, that might mean getting crochet or knitting supplies, while others might want a supply of puzzle books. These efforts are on top of the formalized processes such as Patient Trust Accounts, which allow many residents to manage their own personal funds.
ERCC works with the Randolph County clerk to bring voting options to ERCC and even make arrangements for visits with personal pets if desired. Part of compassionate care is recognizing that change is difficult, and we ensure as much independence is maintained as possible.
