Improvements at ERCC recognized

Elkins Rehabilitation and Care Center recently was recognized for the outstanding improvements it made in quality of care by the West Virginia Medical Institute. The award acknowledges ERCC’s hard work and commitment to providing quality health care to its patients and for collaboration and participation in the Health Care Quality Improvement Program. ERCC provided data to the improvement program for analysis and allowed the program to document its progress.

Denise Campbell, ERCC’s administrator, said she was very proud of the Board of Directors and employees for helping the long-term care and rehabilitation facility achieve this award. “We are very fortunate to have people who are dedicated to ERCC and provide high-quality compassionate care to our short-term and long-term residents as well as our outpatient rehabilitation clients,” she said. “It is wonderful to have their commitment and dedication recognized by the West Virginia Medical Institute and the Health Care Quality Improvement Program.” Gary Schoonover, chairman of the board, praised the way ERCC staff worked together to achieve the measurable quality improvement result

“Many people have worked extremely hard to get ERCC to where it is today,” he said. “This award demonstrates ERCC’s commitment to quality health care.”# In addition to improving the quality of care, Campbell said ERCC made physical improvements and renovated the entire facility creating a home-like setting during the past year. It also changed its name and adopted the tag line, “Complete, Compassionate Care.”

“We enjoy taking great care of local residents in their home community,” she said. “Whether for a few weeks, a few months or longer, we understand ERCC is home to its residents, and we want the atmosphere to be comfortable, welcoming and inviting.”

Dr. David Currence, ERCC medical director, monitors overall care and looks for trends among the residents’ conditions and overall health at the long-term care and rehabilitation facility on Beverly Pike. He has been very impressed with the staff and the level of care provided to long- and short-term residents.

“Health care changes constantly, and it takes all of us to make sure we adapt to those changes and take advantage of new opportunities,” he said. “This award shows that ERCC staff and facility are committed to achieving excellence.
