ERCC Board of Directors adds new members

Elkins Rehabilitation & Care Center is pleased to announce the addition of three new members to its Board of Directors.# Barry Band, Bonnie Serrett and Donald Megert have recently joined the 13-member board. ERCC provides short- and long-term care and rehabilitation services on Beverly Pike in Elkins.

“Barry, Bonnie and Donald are terrific additions to our Board of Directors,” said Denise Campbell, ERCC’s administrator. “They are very talented and bring a wealth of knowledge about our community and the residents we serve. They understand the importance of their roles as board members and will help propel ERCC forward.”

Band retired from Randolph County Schools after 40 years in education. During his tenure he served as principal of Third Ward Elementary School for 33 years and retired as a National Distinguished Principal representing West Virginia. The 1970 Davis & Elkins College graduate also served as an adjunct professor for his alma mater, was principal at Norton Elementary School and taught for several years in the Randolph County Schools System.

“I’m very excited about my new role and the opportunity to work with the other ERCC board members,” he said. “ERCC is a wonderful facility that provides high-quality, compassionate care to short-term and long-term residents.”

Likewise, Serrett is a recent retiree. For 30 years she worked as the executive secretary for the Huttonsville Public Service District. The 1970 Tygarts Valley High School graduate also served as the Recorder and Clerk for the Town of Mill Creek for 15 years and as secretary of the Democratic Executive Committee for one term.

“I look forward to working with ERCC staff and board members to make sure the facility continues to meet the needs of our community,” she said. “I’m particularly proud of the award the West Virginia Medical Institute presented to ERCC in August for improvements in the quality of health care.” Megert has held management level position in the timber industry for the past 36 years. He is currently employed with Eastern Hardwoods and has also held positions at Industrial, Timber and Land as well as Coastal Lumber Company. He has a Bachelor of Arts Degree in organizational management from Wheeling Jesuit University and an associate degree in Wood Science from Ohio State University.

“I have lived in Randolph County for 34 years and look forward to working with ERCC staff and board members as ERCC establishes itself as a premier rehabilitation and care center in North Central West Virginia,” he said.

All of the new board members are very active in their communities. Band currently serves on the Randolph County Senior Center Board of Directors and is advancement chair of Boy Scouts of America Troop 88, a group he has been involved with for 45 years.

He is also involved in First United Methodist Church of Elkins, where he chaired the ministries team, led the opening activities and taught Sunday school for several years.

Band and his wife of 41 years, Carol, live in Elkins. They have three sons and a daughter and are grandparents of 10 grandchildren.

Serrett serves as president of the Randolph County Development Authority, where she has been a member for 15 years. She chairs the West Virginia Water and Wastewater Agency Response Network and Randolph County Utilities Groups and is a member of the Randolph County Local Emergency Planning Committee. She is also involved in the Tyrand Cooperative Ministries.

Serrett and her husband of 40 years, Darrell, live in Mill Creek. They have two daughters and are the grandparents of three grandchildren.# Megert has been on the board of directors of the Randolph County Development Authority for past six years and currently serves on its executive committee. He has also been involved in many other community activities.

Megert and his wife, Donna, have been married for 31 years. They have two sons.
