ERCC celebrates with Christmas Candlelight Service

ELKINS, W.Va. – Residents, friends and family gathered at the Elkins Rehabilitation & Care Center Tuesday, Dec. 20, for the seventh annual Christmas Candlelight Service.

The moving ceremony was led by the Rev. Dr. Basil A. Hensley, ERCC’s chaplain and a retired United Methodist minister, and Gale Poe Howell, director of music at First United Methodist Church in Elkins. ERCC staff coordinated the special event, with the chancel choir and ConwayRingers from First United Methodist participating as well.

Residents and their guests sang “Away in a Manger” and “Silent Night,” and heard Scripture, with Dr. Hensley delivering an inspiring message entitled, “What Did You Get From Christmas?”

ERCC Administrator Denise Campbell said the annual candlelight service brings a touch of home to residents who may not be able to attend church as they have in the past.

“This is a special time of year, and we’re pleased to be able this heartwarming experience for our short- and long-term residents and their families,” Campbell said. “We truly appreciate the support of Dr. Hensley and our friends from First United Methodist Church.”
